QIGONG

Qi is the central component of Kung Fu and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). Often defined as vital life energy, all matter is composed of Qi. As our bodies age, our Qi becomes depleted and damaged. Qi Gong, or 'Qi Skill' is the internal art of cultivating, guiding, repairing, and refining the body's Qi.
Qigong is an ancient method of combining thought, deep breathing, and simple movements to regulate the flow of Qi. This creates a balancing of the Yin and Yang energies in the body, sometimes compared to fire and water. It is considered an excellent method for achieving good health and longevity, and many forms are appropriate for recovery and disabilities.
Most hard and soft styles of Kung Fu do incorporate some form of Qigong into their training regimen. As a healing art it contains no martial intent or application, but by learning to feel the flow of Qi we can open and correct the Qi flow within ourselves, leading to better health, sensitivity, and control.
Qigong is considered 1 of the "3 Pillars" of Tai Chi, alongside forms and push hands. It is essential to any student wishing to advance thier Tai Chi training.
